Replacement of boots of drum-type brake mechanisms of back wheels

Remember that brake boots are subject to replacement only in the complete set and simultaneously on both wheels of the bridge - replacement колодок only conducts one of brake mechanisms to infringement of uniformity of seizing effort and loss of course stability of the car during braking.

Do not forget that the dust developed in the course of deterioration of a frictional material колодок, can contain unhealthy asbestos - at all do not blow off its compressed air and do not inhale. At service of brake mechanisms it is necessary to put on a protective mask or a respirator. Do not use for washing off of a brake dust solvents on an oil basis - wipe components of brake mechanisms only methyl spirit or a special cleaner.


 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Remove a brake drum (see Has undressed Removal, check of a condition and installation of drums of brake mechanisms of back wheels).
2. Without hurrying up and observing all necessary safety measures, clear a drum, a board and boots of the brake mechanism of a brake dust.
3. In several points measure a residual thickness of frictional overlays of boots. If at least one of boots is worn out below an admissible limit, it is necessary to replace them in the complete set (on both wheels). Boots are subject to replacement also in case of revealing on them of traces of oil, greasing or a brake liquid.
4. In case of revealing of signs of non-uniform deterioration of frictional overlays or hit traces on them oils / a brake liquid before to start mechanism assemblage, define a source of leak/reason of operation of a boot and eliminate malfunction.
5. The description of procedure of replacement of brake boots is resulted in below-mentioned paragraphs. If any defects it is not revealed, establish to the place of a brake drum (see Has undressed Removal, check of a condition and installation of drums of brake mechanisms of back wheels).

6. Mark position of components in a drum of the brake mechanism, special attention giving to a placing order распорного a wedge of the adjusting mechanism, разжимной a lath and every possible springs.

7. Remove cups of directing springs of boots for what wring out their flat-nose pliers downwards and develop on 90 .

... Having removed cups, take springs and анкерные fingers

8. Serially having removed boots from the bottom axes, ослабьте a tension of the bottom coupling spring, then unhook it from both башмачных assemblages.

9. Liberate the top ends of boots from pistons of the wheel cylinder - try not to damage piston cuffs. Disconnect from a back boot приводной a cable of a lay brake. Now башмачная assemblage can be removed from a board of the brake mechanism complete with разжимной a lath.

Do not squeeze out a pedal of a foot brake until boots will not be established into place. For fixing of pistons wind assemblage of the wheel cylinder outside of an elastic bandage tape.

10. Try to remember adjusting position of all components, then disconnect a spring from распорного a wedge разжимной laths and remove it with башмачной assemblages.

11. Disconnect the top coupling spring and, liberate from разжимной laths, remove a back boot.
12. Take распорный a wedge (try to remember its adjusting position), then remove разжимную a lath and unhook pulling together spring.
13. Check up all components on presence of signs of deterioration and mechanical damages. Defective details replace. Both coupling springs are subject to replacement without fail, without dependence from their condition. In spite of the fact that frictional overlays basically can be got in an individual order, composers of the present Management recommend to make replacement of the worn out boots in gathering.
14. Turn on back rubber dusterи and check up the wheel cylinder on presence of signs of leaks and mechanical damages. Estimate freedom of moving of both pistons. The information on major repairs of wheel cylinders is stated in Section Removal, major repairs and installation of supports of brake mechanisms of forward wheels.
15. Slightly grease with special brake greasing contact surfaces разжимной a lath and the executive lever of a lay brake.
16. Connect pulling together spring to a forward boot. The opposite end of a spring hook for разжимную on a lath which then get in a landing groove of a forward boot.

17. Fill распорный a wedge on the regular place between a forward boot and a pusher of the adjusting mechanism. Track correctness of installation of components.

18. Connect the top coupling spring to a forward boot. On the second end of a spring hook in an aperture of a back boot having made sure of correctness of landing of hooks of a spring, fill a back boot in a plug разжимной laths. Track correctness of gearing with a lath of both boots and the executive lever of a lay brake.

19. Establish a spring between распорным a wedge of a regulator and a forward boot.
20. Before installation башмачной assemblages carefully wipe a surface of a brake board and slightly grease with high-temperature brake greasing or antitaking hermetic all its surfaces contacting to boots, special attention giving to pistons of the wheel cylinder and the bottom axial knots of landing of boots. Do not suppose greasing hit on surfaces of frictional overlays and working walls of a drum.
21. Remove from the wheel cylinder an elastic bandage tape and get башмачную assemblage on the regular place.
22. Connect приводной a cable to the executive lever of a lay brake, then fill the top ends of boots in grooves in end faces of pistons of the wheel cylinder.
23. Connect to boots the bottom coupling spring, then get the bottom parts of boots on bottom анкерные knots.
24. Обстучите boots for усадки them on a brake board, then establish анкерные fingers and directing springs, having fixed the last cups.
25. Establish into place a drum of the brake mechanism (see Has undressed Removal, check of a condition and installation of drums of brake mechanisms of back wheels).
26. Repeat procedure for the second brake mechanism.
27. Having replaced all complete set of boots, completely release a lay brake and make adjustment of a working backlash between surfaces of frictional overlays of boots and a working wall of a drum. Adjustment is made by squeezings of a pedal of a foot brake to a pressure complete recovery in system.
28. Check up serviceability of functioning of a lay brake, in case of need make corresponding adjustment of its drive (the Section Adjustment of a lay brake see).
29. In summary check up level of a brake liquid in tank GTTS.

Full efficiency of braking is reached only after definitive extra earnings of new brake boots. Avoid sharp braking on first hundreds kilometres of run after replacement of components of brake mechanisms.
